I’m just going to be honest. This is my least favorite time of the year.
I mean, on a good day (like today, actually. see previous post.) I can choose to see it as a clean slate, a fresh start. But most days it just feels cold and bleak. At this point, Spring is still months away, and it still gets dark at 5pm. Basically, January is pert near torture.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear but a miniature statue and an envelope for best picture!
Enter: awards season.
It’s almost embarassing how much I love awards shows. I hurried in to work one day this week so that I could look up the Oscar nominations that were announced during my morning commute. Not kidding.
Why (you’re probably thinking) do they so tickle my fancy? So glad you asked.
I love the hilarious hosts and the witty acceptance speeches, the montages, and the sappy tributes. I love watching the warm, sunny red carpet footage because, for just a minute, I can ignore the gray skies and bare branches outside my window. I love seeing my favorite celebrities and seeing that even though they’re all dolled up (and liquored up, if you’re watching the GGlobes), they’re still just people who sometimes get tongue-tied when they’re nervous and teary-eyed when they talk about their mommas. But mostly, I love the art of good film and TV and music, and I love that we celebrate it.
So if you need me tonight you can find me in my living room excitedly watching the SAG awards, ignoring the fact that it’s January,…
…and hoping to hear an acceptance speech from this guy.

Ha! I had no idea of your love affair with awards shows! You learn something new every day.
Courtney…I am the same way….love all the award shows and especially the academy awards. Randy used to tease me about living in my make believe world….lol. And I would love to see Jeff Bridges win the academy award for best actor, but afraid Colin Firth might win for The King’s Speech which was a very good movie. Have you ever seen Starman with Jeff Bridges…I just love him in that movie. I really enjoy reading your blogs!
Thanks, Shirley! I’ve never heard of Starman, but I love Jeff Bridges so I may add it to my “to see” list.
[...] Bridges is one of my favorite people. I mean, he really is the coolest. He’s just so chill. And he sings. And he [...]
Jeff Bridges for his role in True Grit? If so, wasn’t that in last year’s line up?
Yep! He was nominated for True Grit. This post was from last year.
